Jeri Gort, MSW, LISW, Owner, Executive Director Jeri, as a Social Worker, has over 25 years of experience working with families. She oversees all new families, helping to assess the right level of care for their loved ones. Her mission is to treat all with respect and care on a personal level. Jeri is co-chair of the MN Association of Home Care Social Workers (MAHCSW) and a board member of the Mpls. Area Senior Worker's Association (MASWA). She can be reached at: jgort@touchinghearts.com
Sue Silva, BA, Care Coordinator Sue has 19 years of experience at NorthRidge Masonic Homes, Care Center. With this background and heart for working with seniors and their families, Sue decided to partner with Jeri in serving Minneapolis' aging population. Lindsay Walker, BA, Communications Director Lindsay graduated from Bethel University in May, 2008. Through her interest in Social Welfare, she has volunteered with seniors in both the past and present. She takes care of all our updates over email and issues Touching Hearts Newsletters to our families each quarter. Stacy Monson, BSW, Community Relations - Stacy has a bachelor's degree in Social Work and has most recently worked in church ministry for ten years and human resources/training for the past four years. With a mother in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's and a father dealing with numerous medical issues, she was drawn to Touching Hearts with a deep desire to help seniors and their families cope as effectively as possible with the issues of aging. Stephanie Johnson, Staffing Assistant -Stephanie loves working with people and truly enjoys hearing their stories! Touching Hearts is known for their wonderful Caregivers, and Stephanie does a great job at placing the perfect match together in order for our clients to build a genuine relationship with their companion. Stephanie exclaims that she looks forward to getting to know many new people and hearing their stories as she begins this new experience at Touching Hearts at Home. A Legacy of Love
As the desire to live independently remains an important factor for many seniors, caregiving options have become more diverse. Seniors and their families can now choose services that maintain well-being and safety in one's own home, in addition to the nursing and assisted living options that have been traditionally available. Touching Hearts at Home (originally known as Caring Companions, which was started by Jeri Gort's father, Dale Peterson) is a non-medical homecare company that began in St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1996. Our mission is to provide services for seniors in their own homes, maintaining each client's high quality of life by providing friendship, kindness and care through companionship that preserves a strong peace of mind for both the client and their family. We see the opportunity to provide caregiving services to seniors as a gift that we must respectfully receive and give back with great integrity, always putting empathy and the belief in the dignity of all people in the forefront of our work.
Touching Hearts at Home originated from the natural compassion of the Peterson family, who received such a strong example of caregiving, kindness and concern from her mother, 94 year-old Melvina Peterson. Melvina, (who is also Jeri Gort's Grandmother, and Lindsay Gort's Great-Grandmother) gave them and countless others in her life the gift of unconditional love, a legacy of love that we, through Touching Hearts at Home, have been able to share throughout our community. The 100 miles that separate grandmother, father and daughter make Jeri empathetic to those who live a distance from elderly parents, sparking concern and stress. Jeri and our staff are committed to helping ease that stress for others.
Our vision is to build a legacy of care and compassion that enriches the lives of as many people in need as possible.
