Caring with Compassion: Judith's Story
At Touching Hearts at Home of Fort Bend, we celebrate caregivers who bring personality, warmth, and humanity to every moment they spend with our clients. Judith Violette is one of those remarkable individuals. With two years of service and a heart full of humor and love, she embodies what it means to truly care.
A Playful Beginning, A Purposeful Path
Judith’s journey into caregiving began in the most unexpected way—with a job ad that mentioned “Gray Hair Preferred.” Rather than shy away, she leaned in, intrigued by a role that not only welcomed her stage of life but celebrated it.
That lighthearted detail sparked a deeply meaningful path. Judith found that her natural compassion, patience, and life experience made her an ideal fit for the world of non-medical home care. And at Touching Hearts at Home of Fort Bend, her spark quickly became a source of comfort and joy for clients and families alike.
Meaningful Moments in Everyday Life
Some of the most profound caregiving experiences come not from big milestones but from the little shared moments—and Judith understands this deeply. She recalls one day sitting with a client on the patio, watching lizards scurry across the ground and reminiscing about childhood memories—including the mischievous act of cutting off another girl’s braids. They both had braids themselves, making the story even more personal and lighthearted.
“We just laughed and connected,” Judith shared. “That’s what this work is all about—finding the joy in the everyday.”
These experiences, simple as they seem, speak to the beauty of companionship and the richness that in-home senior care provides.
Patience, Love, and Understanding
Over the past two years, Judith has learned that providing in-home care for older adults takes more than a checklist—it takes heart.
“I’ve learned the importance of patience and love,” she said. “Especially when a client can’t communicate exactly what’s wrong, I try really hard to figure it out. That effort alone comforts both of us.”
Caregiving for older adults, especially those living with dementia or communication challenges, requires keen observation, empathy, and a deep well of emotional resilience. Judith meets those challenges with grace, always working to provide comfort, calm, and a listening ear.
Building Trust with Humor and Heart
One of Judith’s greatest strengths is her ability to connect. She does so by telling silly stories, reading the Bible, sharing laughs, and simply saying, “I love you.”
“Talking to my clients about themselves—about their lives, memories, and even their fears—is the foundation for everything,” Judith explained. “When my client smiled and told me I was the best, it made me realize how deeply this work matters.”
Trust in caregiving doesn’t come automatically. It’s built moment by moment, story by story, until the caregiver becomes not just a helper—but a friend.
A Rewarding Perspective on Aging
Caregiving has shifted Judith’s outlook on life and aging. What was once perhaps a phase to fear or dread has become something she cherishes and respects.
“This is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had,” Judith said. “It’s made me appreciate growing older.”
Her perspective echoes the values we uphold at Touching Hearts at Home—seeing aging not as a decline, but as a continuation of one’s story, worthy of honor, connection, and care.
The Power of Personalized, At-Home Care
Judith is a firm believer in the power of home care. For her, the difference between a care facility and personalized home care is clear.
“Home care is so much more personal than nursing home care,” she said. “The client is in a familiar setting, the family is close, and you’re giving them your undivided attention.”
This one-on-one, relationship-focused approach is at the core of what we do. It empowers clients to maintain their dignity, their independence, and their routines—all within the comfort of home.
Advice for Future Caregivers
Judith’s message to anyone considering a career in home care is rooted in compassion:
“Remember that the client is a human being and needs to be treated as you’d want to be treated. Love them.”
Whether it’s companionship, light homemaker services, medication reminders, or simply being present, Judith reminds us that how we do the work matters just as much as what we do.
