The Role of Mental Health in Senior Well-Being Through Home Care Assistance
Home care assistance supports senior mental health by providing connection, routine, and meaningful daily engagement.
Feeling run down might be something you’ve been getting used to as a caregiver, but that’s not really normal. Sure, you’re dealing with a lot more than you probably used to on a daily basis, but you need to pay attention if you’re starting to feel markedly less energetic.
Are You Just Tired or Are You Fatigued?
There’s normal run of the mill “tired” and then there’s fatigue. If you’re more tired than you’ve ever been and it’s consistent even after you’ve gotten solid rest, you might be dealing with fatigue. You can start to track how you’re feeling over the course of a few days to get a better look at how you’re realistically feeling. This can be valuable information to take to your doctor.
Look at Contributing Factors
This can be happening because you’re just not getting the rest that you need. Once you’re aware of how you’re feeling, you can start to take steps to change what you’re doing. But if you’re getting regular rest and you’re still feeling run down and low on energy, it’s time to look at other factors. You could be dealing with a health issue that you haven’t known about or there could be something else going on. Start with your doctor to start ruling things out.
It’s More Than Physical Factors at Times
Keep in mind that while physical issues, like lack of rest and illness, can be contributing factors, your mental and emotional health also play a part in your energy levels. If you’ve been under a great deal of stress and you haven’t been able to do much about that, you could be feeling the impact of that. As a caregiver you’re going to need to make sure you’re taking care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically.
You Need Additional Help
The bottom line is that you really can’t do all of this completely on your own. You’re a caregiver, but you need additional help in order to ensure that you’re taking the best care possible of both you and your senior. Set aside some time to look into all of the ways that you can include more help in your day, including working with elder care providers.
When your body is slowing down and your energy levels are lower than normal, that’s a sign that you need to pay attention. If you ignore these initial signs, you might find yourself knocked out of caregiving sooner than you expect.
