Could You Be Headed for Caregiver Burnout?

There are many senior citizens who can’t move around very well now that they are older. If you or an elder care provider notice this issue with your elderly loved one, it is crucial to figure out what is causing their reduced movement. If you can figure out the cause or have a doctor determine the cause, it will be easier to help your elderly loved one to start moving around more.
Unfortunately, many elderly people lose endurance and/or strength as they get even older. This is often a normal part of the aging process. With this being said, that doesn’t mean your elderly loved one just has to let it be and deal with it. In fact, there are some exercises that you or an elder care provider can help your loved one with. These exercises are intended to build stronger muscles and boost energy. When your senior does endurance and strength-based exercises, it could help them to be more mobile again.
Do you or elder care providers notice that your loved one is scared of having a fall? Maybe, they don’t stand up much throughout the day, because they are worried they will be unsteady when doing so. You might notice your senior walking very slowly because they are concerned with falling. The problem is that the more your elderly loved one fears falling, the more likely they will be to fall. If you find this is the case, you might want to work with them to build their confidence. If needed, your loved one may feel better using a cane or a walker.
Another reason why your loved one might not be very mobile these days is because of fatigue. Many people don’t realize it, but fatigue can negatively impact almost every aspect of a person’s life. If you or an elder care provider notice them constantly laying down or sitting down shortly after getting up, they may be fatigued. Your senior may be able to take vitamins prescribed by their doctor or do certain exercises to reduce the fatigue they are experiencing.
There are many reasons why senior citizens may move less. The examples above are some reasons why this may be happening for your elderly loved one. However, now that you know what to consider, you and their elder care providers can start helping your loved one to find solutions to this issue.
