Holiday Caregiving

Holidays like Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and New Years are celebrated and happy times for many people, however, if you are older and alone, they can be filled with longing and loneliness.  Holidays are often a time when depression sets in due to challenges such as:

  • Traveling solo
  • Change in routine
  • Missed medications
  • Unhealthy eating
  • Time spent inactive
  • Loneliness
  • The expense of gift giving
  • Excess activity

Consider adding something new to your life during this season of giving and renewal.  Did you know there are quality companies who train quality people who can become part of your everyday life?  I work with one of them and I know what a difference we make everyday in the lives of individuals and families across America.  People think of a caregiver as someone who is there when you are dealing with a medical condition or recovering from an illness or hospitalization, but there’s another part of having a professional caregiver that you need to understand: companionship.  Before your health depends on it, consider what brings you joy and your quality of life.

The holidays are a great time to experience a professional caregiver for the first time.  If you or someone you know is more alone than not during the holidays, this is a time to interview a home care company like Touching Hearts at Home and get paired with a professional caregiver who is the right fit for you.  A caregiver is a person you can rely on who is not family or friend.  She or he can provide you with companionship you can trust when others are not available due to schedules or distance.

A professional caregiver is someone who can drive and accompany you to a holiday favorite like the Nutcracker Ballet.  You can enjoy a meal out with a caregiver who will escort you or help navigate you safely to the places you love to go.  What a difference it can make to know you have someone you can rely on to help you do things, to include staying connected with family and friends!

You can reminisce about the past and talk about traditions with a caregiver who is interested in who you are.  This is someone who can prepare favorite foods with you, or for you, so your holiday favorites continue to be enjoyed!  You can shop with a caregiver who will help you carry groceries or packages.  And, your caregiver is a great walking companion for indoor or outdoor holiday festivities.

And, what’s really great about a professional caregiver is that they are available to you everyday of the year, not just the holidays!

Give yourself the gift of companion care through a qualified home care company like Touching Hearts at Home.  For just a few hours or 24/7, you can feel the confidence of knowing someone will be there for you whenever you want, or need, person centered care.

This is something to be thankful for!
